Hey all!
So. We've had an influx of MPF and I like to think I could consider myself 'well versed' in this server now - and I'd like to bring something up. I've spoken to Stone Cold who agrees with me on this, but I don't think the ratio of cops to citizens should be an enforced thing.
1: It doesn't live up to the expectations of the Universe.
Citizens are generally terrified to do jack shit in HL2 - or anything bad - because there could be MPF around every corner. Or if not, then cameras, etc. And the fact is, the ratio all but destroys that. It may only be half as many cops per citizens, but this means you can very easily walk away while one is AFK or patrolling elsewhere or in the Nexus and have no fear, because you know there's only one or two active units to worry about. And frankly, I don't think that's right. It makes things... well, too easy on the citizens.
2. Just one arrest takes a chunk out of the active units.
It is stupidly hard to keep tabs on nine people with four active units at maximum when one arrest can take one, maybe even two off the streets. As I've said above; this lets Citizens do all sorts because the risk of running into a unit is very, very low. Or if someone goes AFK - even for ten minutes - he's still out. And if he gets kicked... still one less cop. Even if someone is there to flag up, they still may not know whats happening. I know I've come online and flagged up to see two citizens in the plaza with three off god-knows-where, and we simply can't find them because, again, we don't have the manpower. If the Units have a scene in the Nexus, it could cripple the Citizens RP too.
3. We now have more than four consistently active MPF.
Back when I joined it was really only a few MPF. Now we have apps and floods of new recruits and 05's who have to jockey for position because of the ratio. Frankly, I don't think it's fair on them. If they have to sit and wait to play their whitelist because people don't want to flag down (until forced via roll off, which I find frustrating anyway), it would get tiring. Four MPF at maximum with... almost twice that in apps and new recruits I've seen? That isn't fair to them or the established cops who can't play because of this.
I'm not saying we erase all of the ratio; it works. But we shouldn't limit MPF by Citizens. HL2 is meant to be oppressive and, frankly, people have app'd for these whitelists. They should be able to play them - and the Citizens SHOULD have the fear of god put into them instead of being able to run rings around them due to the numbers being unequal.
Hope this doesn't come across badly; just my view.
Thanks!
